Halal Recs FAQ
Direct answers to common questions about halal food and using Halal Recs. For a particular meal, confirm the details with the business.
What is the difference between fully halal and halal options?
Fully halal describes a business identified as offering halal food across its menu. Halal options means some items may be halal, not that the entire menu is. Ask which items qualify, how ingredients are sourced, and whether preparation is separated from non-halal items.
What does zabiha mean?
Zabiha refers to meat from an animal slaughtered according to Islamic requirements. Interpretations and certification standards can vary. Ask a business about its suppliers, slaughter method, and any certification rather than assuming every halal listing meets a particular zabiha standard.
How does Halal Recs verify halal status?
Community halal-status suggestions go through moderation. Only approved suggestions affect the public consensus, and a team-verified status takes precedence. Team verification means internal review; it is not a certification issued by Halal Recs.
Are businesses on Halal Recs certified halal?
Not necessarily. Halal Recs is a discovery and community-review directory, not a halal certification body. A listing or a team-verified label does not mean that a certification organization has certified the business. Ask the business for current certification and what it covers.
Does halal food mean the restaurant does not serve alcohol?
No. A business may offer halal food while also selling alcohol or non-halal items. Check the business's information and ask directly if alcohol service, shared preparation, or other practices affect your decision.
How do I add a restaurant or another food business?
Use Recommend in the app, search for the place, and follow the submission form. You need an account to contribute, and account signup requires confirmation that you are at least 16. Business information is checked and contributions may require moderation.
How do I report an error or a halal-status change?
Use the report or halal-status suggestion controls on the business page. Include specific details and supporting evidence when possible. You can also email support with the listing link. Pending suggestions do not immediately change the public status.
How are dish reviews scored?
Dish reviews use a score out of 10. Scores reflect community experiences with individual dishes, not halal certification. Read the accompanying review and check when it was posted.
Can I browse without an account?
Yes. Public business information and these pages are available without signing in. An account is needed for contributions and personal features such as writing reviews and saving collections.
Are there paid memberships?
No. New memberships, subscriptions, and trials are no longer offered. Historical payment records may be retained for accounting and other legal obligations.
